United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC)
The IRTE is a member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC).The UNRSC is an informal network of more than 40 partners including UN agencies, government ministries of health and transport, nongovernmental organisations, private companies and foundations. The Collaboration is a partnership whose members are committed to international road safety efforts. The Collaboration’s goals are to facilitate international cooperation and to strengthen global and regional coordination in order to support countries’ road safety policies and programmes.
The UNRSC’s members meet twice a year to share information.
Commission for Global Road Safety
Mr. Rohit Baluja, President-IRTE is a member of the Commission for Global Road Safety representing India and Asia. The four key objectives of the Commission for Global Road Safety : to advocate for the recommendations of the World Report on road traffic injury prevention released by the World Health Organisation and World Bank; to propose and argue for sources of funding that could be directed to implement these recommendations; to raise political awareness and commitment to road injury ;and to make the connection between road safety and the wider development agenda.
The last meeting of the Commission for Global Road Safety was held in Russia in September 2008.
Working Party (WP 1)
Mr. Rohit Baluja, President-IRTE has been invited since 2007 as an observer to the meetings of the WP1 held in Geneva twice a year. The Working Party on Road Traffic Safety has been working on incorporating amendments to the Vienna Convention on road Signs & Signals, the European Agreement Supplementing the Convention and its additional Protocol, The implementation in UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Countries of these agreements and conventions has greatly contributed to reduction of accidents on UNECE roads. |
