First Indian Road Safety Stakeholders' Forum
New Delhi, India, January 7, 2006.

The First Indian Road Safety Stakeholders' Forum was convened at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on January 7, 2006 was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Mark Rosenberg, Director Of the Secretariat, Global Road Safety Steering Committee & Executive Director of Task Force For Child Survival & Development, USA and Dr. Bassam Anani, First Economic Affairs Officer United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).



A small number of key people from multiple sectors which include transport, health, law enforcement, education, urban planning, representatives from civil society and the private sector, researchers, academics, advocates, non-governmental organizations, banks and other financial institutions were invited to this planning meeting.

Objectives of this meeting:

Bring together key participants and stakeholders from government, private sector, and civil society
Provide background information on the global road safety crisis and important role of advocacy
Update on global level advocacy activities and regional forums
Explore development of a regional or national forum, including what a regional forum for India could accomplish.
Provide background to inform discussion for participation in Global Road Safety week (April 23-29, 2007).

IRTE Member of the committee on Road Safety and Traffic Management

IRTE becomes a member of the committee On Road Safety and Traffic Management, which has been set up by the committee on infrastructure (COI) headed by Hon’ble Prime Minister for the creation of the Directorate Of Road Safety And Traffic Regulation and to decide on the scope, functions and nature of the directorate.

 

IRTE Launches Interceptors in Sikkim and Holds A Training Workshop

 

 

Two interceptors were flagged off as a part of the Republic Day celebrations by the Hon’ble Governor and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, these were fully commissioned by a four member team of IRTE, led by Mr. Baluja, President IRTE..

The IRTE carried out a training programme for all the SDPOs and other police staff of Sikkim, members of the transport department, urban development, and town planning department of Sikkim government also attended the 2 day workshop. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Mr. Alok Rawat, principal Secretary, Govt of Sikkim In The Presence Of The Director General of police.


 

 

 

IRTE Conclave and Retreat at Rishikesh 12-14 Aug 2005.

The plan for holding a conclave and retreat at Rishikesh from 12 to 14 Aug 2005 was arranged with a view to carry out a team building exercise and also to get to know each other in the IRTE family, and spend some time to understand and share the future programme of IRTE. All members of IRTE, its associates and staff were invited. The annual general body meeting of IRTE was scheduled for 14th Aug 05 and conducted at the same venue

IRTE completed 15 years of its existence in 2005, the vision of IRTE has become an international reality. It was felt that the organization is on the threshold of bringing safety on Indian roads and it has received recognition as a global champion.

A special session was conducted to consider how to make IRTE a Global Player, how the institute should work towards developing global benchmarking and standards in road safety management,.

place, stay together for a couple of days, share views and points, and bring out recommendations for taking IRTE further forward on road to progress to achieve its aims and objectives at the earliest possible time.
