Asian Institute of Technology was the winner of
the IRTE & Prince Michael International Road Safety
Awards 2006. Mr. Rohit Baluja made a visit to the
AIT in Bangkok in Thailand in March2007. In the

The Institute Of Road Traffic Education In collaboration
with Department Of Civil Engineering, University
Of Birmingham, held a Stake Holders Partnership
Dialogue to deliberate upon the possibility of
initiating road safety research related courses
in academic institutions, a partnership of institutions,
safety promoting organizations, government and
other bodies
Workshop on the Implementation of Good Practices
in Road Traffic Safety Muscat, Oman 28-29 November
2005
The Workshop was jointly organized by ESCWA and FIA. The Meeting was attended by heads of the traffic safety departments and other officials dealing with traffic safety issues, consultants and representatives of international safety bodies, representatives from the civil society groups dealing with traffic safety in the ESCWA region and international consultants
This workshop was aimed at discussing specific good practices in traffic safety related to human behavior, vehicles, road design and furniture, specific examples of good practices in selected ESCWA countries, specific examples of poor practices in selected ESCWA countries, strategies for implementing good practices in road traffic safety in the ESCWA region, strategies for managing poor practices in road traffic safety in the ESCWA region, and preparations for the Global Road Safety Week (April 2007).
IRTE at the Asian Development Bank, Manila
At the behest of the Asian Development Bank, Mr Rohit
Baluja, President, IRTE, made a presentation at the Asian
Development Bank in Manila on 23rd and 24th Feb.,
2004 highlighting the success of the programmes
spearheaded by the IRTE in an endeavour to bring about
positive attitude amongst the stakeholders towards road
safety management in India. These innovative
programmes of enforcement, traffic engineering and
public involvement could easily be replicated in the
developing countries to attain similar results.
IRTE at the World Bank in Washington
At the invitation of the World Bank, Mr.Rohit Baluja,
President, IRTE made a compelling presentation at the
World Bank Headquarters in Washington on 19th & 20th
April 2004.
The presentation showcased the Interceptor philosophy
and demonstrated how the Interceptors are achieving
direct traffic discipline through a multi-pronged approach
inclusive of educative and penal enforcement, road
safety audit, and road user education.
IRTE Supports Appeldoorn Conference.

An international expert-meeting was organised by the
Institute of Traffic Care, VIA and the IRTE from 24 to 2
May, 2004 at Appeldoorn in the Netherlands on
'Benchmarking Road Safety Standards'. The focus of
this expert-meeting was to determine the parameters to
establish minimum road safety standards, guidelines,
manuals and traffic police training programmes.
Implementation of the road safety standards and programmes in the developing countries were the
highlight of discussion in this expert-meeting. Mr Rohit
Baluja, President, IRTE, made an emphatic presentation
underlining the need for Scientific Collision Investigation
to initiate the process of road safety management.
Over a hundred delegates from across the world
participated in the 5-day conference.
IRTE invited to FIA Foundation International Policy Forum
at Baden bei Vienna, Austria.

The FIA Foundation held its first International Policy
Forum in the Austrian spa town of Baden on 10 June
2004 as a part of the AIT & FIA Conference Week. The
subject of this Forum was the important issue of
children's road safety. The International Forum brought
together transport policy officials from government,
representatives of international institutions, leaders from
non governmental organsations and policy specialists
from the FIA Foundation's international membership of
national automobile clubs from every region of the world.
IRTE's School Conclave programme was selected for
presentation at the International Policy Forum. Mr. Rohit
Baluja, President, IRTE, made this presentation
showcasing to the delegates the uniqueness of
spreading the road safety message throughincorporating it in the existing subjects of the School
Curriculum by training the educators - school teachers
and police officers, in road safety education techniques.
IRTE in Spain
The Police Department of Spain in association with
TRAFPOL and the WRSN organised a 3-day Congress in
Elche, in Spain, from 13th to 15th October, 2004, on
International Perspectives in Traffic Management &
Education. President, IRTE was invited to this forum to make a
presentation on the innovative practices in road safety
education for developing countries. The 3-day
conference was attended by over 400 delegates from
Spain and other parts of the world.
IRTE in Egypt

On 9th - 10th, Feb., 2005, under the auspices of Her
Excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, the First Lady of
Egypt, and the Ministry of Interior of the Arab Republic of
Egypt, a pioneering 2-day international forum, Road
Safety & Traffic Management 2005 was organised to
coincide with the official Egyptian Police Festival 2005.
The conference was attended by over 500 members
from different stakeholders groups from Egypt as well
as from across the world where IRTE was specially
invited based on its successful programmes on road
user education, especially for school children. The
President IRTE was invited to chair the session as well as
make the presentation on how the innovative
schoolteacher's program of School Conclave could be
adopted by other countries especially in the MENA
Region.
IRTE in Iran

Selected experts from the International Road Federation
(IRF) membership were invited to Tehran to deliver a
three day seminar from 26 to 28 June 2005, for the
Ministry of Road & Transportation of Iran. The seminar
was tailored to the needs of the Iran Ministry and focused
on the following three key themes: road safety, road
maintenance and road finance. The seminar was
attended by 50 delegates from the ministry of Tehran as
well as from the traffic police.
IRF was represented by its Director General, Mr. Anthony
Pearce, Mr. Harry T. Evdorides, Faculty, School of
Engineering, the University of Birmingham, UK, M/s EGIS,France, M/s MENA Jordan, M/s Scott Wilson, UK. The
Workshop was inaugurated by Mr Khansari, Deputy
Minister, Govt. of Iran, and President, RMTO.
Mr. Rohit Baluja, President IRTE made a compelling
presentation on the theme of road safety management
which included the subjects of traffic engineering,
accident investigation and analysis, understanding of
traffic laws, as well as traffic police .
IRTE at the European Union Parliament

As a member of the International Road Federation, IRTE
was invited to participate in a Conference titled,
European Transport Policy - Strangling or Liberating
Europe's Potential?
The groundbreaking half-day conference in the European
Parliament discussed at length the current state of the
Transport Policy in Europe and the challenges it is facing.
The participants also deliberated upon the business
perspective on development of a balanced transport
policy mix for Europe.
The conference saw, among others, the participation of
dignitaries like Members of the European Parliament, Mr.
Ari Vatanen and Mr. Malcolm Harbour, Mr Romy
Prud'homme, Professor at the Paris XII University and
expert in transport economics, Jacques Barrot, Vice-
President of the European Commission and
Commissioner in charge for transport, Hendrik Jan-Jurriaan Schuwer, Deputy Permanent Representative of
the Netherlands to the EU, and senior officials from many
large corporate including Nokia, Procter & Gamble,
Master Foods etc. Mr. Rohit Baluja represented the IRTE
at this event in the European Union Parliament.
