Supported by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India, the IRTE has organised Road Safety Weeks in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. The Road Safety Weeks included seminars, safety walks, debates, competitions etc. for school children, youth and general public at large.
IRTE has organised since 1992, road safety competitions for school children, bus drivers, police constables and wardens in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai etc.
These competitions have a meaning and purpose:
to gauge the present level of awareness about road laws and road safety among different citizen groups
to get acquainted with the problems faced by this cross-section of people
to assess where we have gone wrong and thereby make new schemes, initiate corrective measures and make a futuristic plan accordingly
to create an awareness on the importance of 'road safety' in schools, police departments, bus corporations etc.
to award outstanding candidates, thereby motivating them to bring in a wave of appreciation in their respective institutions
These competitions are judged by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of educationists, police, IRTE members etc.
The competitions for school children include:
Safety Cartoon painting
Slogan coining and Message on road safety called 'Words'
Quiz
Group stage presentation called 'Dhamaka'
For police personal and drivers the competitions entail written, oral and field tests conducted over three days
Road Safety Awards are presented to the best perfomances at a special function for the same. The school securing the highest number of points is the winner of the IRTE running Road Safety Trophy.
