M.Sc. Traffic Management
Inception of the program
According to the World Health Organization 51 countries of the Asia Pacific Region account for 59.4% of the global road
crash fatalities, and just 15 countries of the South East Asian Region account for 39.7 % of the global share.
The figures clearly indicate the need for indigenous manpower capacity building in the domain of road safety
management. This is the very purpose that this Post Graduate Course has been designed: To meet the needs and
requirements of road traffic management in the South East Asian Region as well as for the countries of emerging
economies.
From traffic engineering for Vulnerable Road Users including the high percentage of Powered Two Wheelers, mixed
traffic conditions, all subject-modules have been meticulously drafted to help sustainable management systems for
developing countries.
M.Sc. in Traffic Management will focus both on academic and hands-on training in all domains of traffic management.
From traffic engineering, road safety audit, traffic enforcement, road crash investigation, driver training, vehicle safety,
road safety education, highway asset management and post-crash management and other related aspects, all will be
covered in this two-year course.
The postgraduate course will open many career opportunities for the candidates. From openings in road construction
and management organisations, urban development agencies, government and non-government organisations
dealing with road transport, safety audits, and traffic engineering to fleet operators, tourist and transport organisations
the avenues are many.
The program aims to create capabilities of individuals in domains of traffic management and develop scientific basis of
comprehensively integrating the subject areas through the process of research, globally applied best practices and
recognising the national and local needs.
Safe System Approach
Each module has been integrated with the philosophy of the Safe Systems Approach, which inculcates in individuals
the understanding to manage complex and dynamic interaction between operating speeds, vehicles, road
infrastructure and road user behaviour in a holistic and integrated manner so that road traffic moves in the most safe
and disciplined manner.
