B.Sc. M.Sc. Forensic Science

Building on 33 years of teaching and research experience, our progression to conduct degree programs and create qualified personnel in crime scene examination, scientific evidence analysis, and reliable investigations was the obvious step ahead. This transition supports national capacity-building efforts.

Recognising the need for skilled professionals to address the increasing crime rates and promote scientific temperament, CTM offers two full-time degree programs through its Department of Forensic Science. The program aims to prepare skilled professionals enthusiastic about learning and advancing in diverse forensic science fields, ultimately contributing to upholding justice in the courtroom.

From 2022, the College of Traffic Management offers a two-year M.Sc. Forensic Science program in affiliation with the National Forensic Sciences University. This year, another five-year integrated degree program has been introduced: B.Sc.-M.Sc. Forensic Science affiliated to NFSU in line with the new National Education Policy 2020.

This B.Sc.-M.Sc. Forensic Science program (five-year integrated course) provides a unique, integrated academic pathway for applicants after their senior secondary school who kindle exploring the subject ab initio, from a robust foundation of undergraduate studies to the advanced techniques from the postgraduate education in forensic science. Students will engage in rigorous coursework and hands-on training across various forensic disciplines, including crime scene investigation and criminalistics, forensic biology, medicine, anthropology, and genomics, forensic chemistry and toxicology, and digital and cyber forensics.

The university’s mission is to develop professional, ethical graduates whose competence in problem-solving, legal analysis and application, quantitative reasoning, investigation and scientific laboratory procedures can be applied to immediate employment or advanced study. Additionally, our partnerships with law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories, and other such organisations offer internships and collaborative projects, as these opportunities enhance practical exposure and provide valuable networking connections, opening doors to future employment.

To establish a conducive environment for research across various domains of forensic and applied sciences, which nurtures the students’ minds, facilitating effective education, innovation and development.

Fieldwork –

CTM offers fieldwork opportunities to students as an integral part of their curriculum allowing them to actively engage in real-time cases collaborating with Police officials, mobile forensic units and investigators. This helps the students visualise and learn strategies employed in court proceedings to present themselves as competent forensic experts providing testimony. They also acquire knowledge of the procedural aspects involved in conducting post-mortems. This is further described below:-

  • Police Departments – Students work with police departments and participate in investigations of real-time cases at crime scenes, working alongside skilled investigating officers.
  • Law Firms - They acquire insightful and practical knowledge of court proceedings with practising advocates and develop the necessary skills to serve as expert witnesses in a court of law.
  • NGOs- We collaborate with NGOs working on various crime-related issues, such as crimes against women, crimes against children, and child labour, providing students with the chance to explore the physiological and psychological challenges faced by victims and proactive forensic strategies.
  • Hospitals – This allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the complex medico-legal issues involved in investigating deaths and evaluating evidence of the cause and manner of death.

  • We offer comprehensive 100% placement assistance.
  • Our institution houses advanced and well-equipped Forensic Science Laboratories, including the Crime Scene Investigation Lab, Questioned Document & Fingerprint Science Lab, Forensic Biology Lab, and Forensic Chemistry Lab, among others.
  • We regularly organise expert talks, guest sessions, and training programs conducted by esteemed national and international academicians and experts in Forensic Science.
  • We have established strong industry-academia linkages through conferences, seminars, workshops, training sessions, events, and counselling sessions.
  • Our students intern at various government labs such as Regional Forensic Science Laboratories, State Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs), and Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) across India, as well as in private forensic science laboratories such as Truth Lab, Hawk Eye Forensics, International Forensic Services, Cyint Technologies, and more.
  • We emphasise extending research areas to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • We have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with esteemed institutes/organizations including the University of Birmingham, Graz University of Technology, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, Bihar Police, Land Ports Authority of India, Haryana Police, Punjab Police, National Forensic Sciences University (Delhi Campus), and Hawk Eye Forensics.

At CTM, we strive to provide our students with placement opportunities aligning with their career aspirations. Our strong industry connections and comprehensive curriculum prepare graduates well for future job prospects. Throughout their placements, students receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals. These opportunities not only enhance their technical skills but also develop critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills vital for a successful career in forensic science.
