New Traffic Rules 2019 Updated list of Penalties under MVA 2019

The new Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, passed in August 2019, made significant changes to how India’s roads will be administered.

From new traffic rules to failure to comply with road construction standards, a lot of traffic rules and fines were updated for any violations.

New Traffic Rules: Here's an updated list of penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 2019.

First Offence: Fine of Rs. 5000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 months

First Offence: For light motor vehicles - Rs 1000 - Rs 2000 and for the medium passenger or goods vehicles -Rs 2,000 - Rs 4,000

Second/Subsequent Offence: Impounding of driving license.

Allowing unauthorised persons to drive vehicles Rs 1,000 Imprisonment up to three months and/or a fine of Rs 5,000
Driving Dangerously (unlawful overtaking, jumping a red light, violation of stop sign, use of hand-held devices while driving, etc.) ------

First Offence: Imprisonment of up to six months to 1 year and/or fine of Rs. 1000- Rs. 5000

Second Offence: Imprisonment up to 2 years and/or fine up to Rs. 10000.

Disobedience of orders of authority and refusal in sharing information Rs 500 Rs 2,000
Driving when physically or mentally unfit to drive Rs 200 for the first offence, Rs 500 for second/subsequent offence

Offences relating to an accident ------

First Offence: Imprisonment of up to 6 months and/or fine up to Rs. 5000

Second Offence: Imprisonment up to 1 year and/or fine up to Rs. 10000.

Not wearing protective headgear ------ Fine of Rs. 1000 and disqualification for holding a licence for a period of three months
Driving uninsured vehicle A fine of Rs. 1000 and/or punishment of up to three months

First Offence: Imprisonment of up to 3 months and/or Rs. 2000 fine

Second Offence: Imprisonment of up to 3 months and/or Rs. 4000 fine

Taking a vehicle without lawful authority/ Seizing of the motor vehicle by force Rs 500 Imprisonment up to three months and/or a fine of Rs. 5000
Use of horns unnecessarily or in areas with a sign prohibiting the use of horn ------
